The Sustainable Apparel Coalition is seeking a highly respected apparel professional to serve as its Senior Manager of Verification located in one of SAC’s offices around the globe. The successful candidate will ensure that the world’s leading sustainability index is the respected standard for measuring and improving environmental, social, and labor impacts for one of the world’s most important industries.

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) was founded by a group of sustainability leaders from the global apparel and footwear industry who recognize addressing our current social and environmental challenges are both a business imperative and an opportunity.

Position Description

The Senior Manager of Verification will be responsible for overseeing and improving verification programs for the Higg Index suite of tools. The goal of this program is ensure that the Higg Index and its related tools are trusted measures for sustainability planning and benchmarking, with scores that can be leveraged for performance improvement and public facing communications.  This role requires an expert in supply chain management and a keen understanding of the dynamics related to “audit fatigue” with an interest to meet value chain verification needs in a different way. The successful candidate is someone who is a subject-matter expert and is experienced and confident in managing program contractors and facilitating stakeholder engagement.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Facilitate member and stakeholder processes on evolving verification protocols and programs for Higg tools;

Manage the implementation of verification programs, including the selection and management of contractors;

Identify innovative approaches to improving data accuracy beyond traditional auditing methods; 

Pilot a brand verification program and product verification program in 2019, which includes vetting third-party verifiers and testing a verification methodology with ten or more companies;

Develop and maintain quality assurance for programs to ensure the credibility of verified scores;

Foster collaboration and convergence with other sustainability assessments that have been prioritized by SAC;

Measure program success and communicate the results;

Ensure Higg verification programs reduce redundancy in assessments while improving social and environmental results on the ground.


Ideal candidate has:

10+ years of progressive experience within the apparel, footwear, or home textiles industries including supply chain management and verification programs;

Excellent written and verbal communications skills;

Strong familiarity with SAC and the Higg suite of tools with a clear understanding of the difference in approach between Higg and standard audits;

Experience working with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.

Compensation and Location

SAC offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. SAC's members are global organizations, and as such, the SAC staff sometimes works early or late hours. This is a full-time position.
