The Sustainable Apparel Coalition is seeking a Senior Manager,  Human Resources, to oversee all aspects of HR for a growing global trade association with 35 employees.

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) was founded by a group of sustainability leaders from the global apparel and footwear industry who recognize that addressing our current social and environmental challenges are both a business imperative and an opportunity.

Through multi-stakeholder engagement, the SAC seeks to lead the industry toward a shared vision of sustainability built upon a common approach for measuring and evaluating apparel and footwear product sustainability performance that spotlights opportunities for technological innovation and priorities for action. The Higg Index, our common measurement tool, is currently in use by thousands of brands, retailers and factories within our industry.

Position Description

The Senior Manager, Human Resources will serve as the primary point person for all employment-related matters across the organization.  He/she will ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations regarding employment issues such as pay, employer and employee rights, and equal opportunity; administer SAC’s employee performance management program; serve as primary liaison to our global benefits brokers and systems; oversee payroll and benefits; and maintain SAC’s written policies and procedures for all aspects of its operations, including SAC’s global operations and office manuals and employee handbooks.  Most importantly, the Senior Manager, Human Resources will support and foster job satisfaction and employee happiness at the SAC.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Implement and manage employment policies, standards and procedures globally

Maintain employee contracts and employment policies globally

Manage 401(k) and health insurance plans in the US

Manage pension plan in Europe

Serve as liaison with external providers of benefits and benefits-related services

Manage the SAC recruiting process

Help develop and support a collaborative, creative, and fun global office culture

Further develop and manage SAC’s performance review process

In-house expert on HR legal matters in the US and other countries

Global payroll administration for a growing international staff

Manage SAC’s international professional employer organization (PEO)


The ideal candidate has:

A Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred

One to five years of experience

Experience in payroll, benefits admin, and human resources management

Excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Advanced Excel skills preferred

Experience with payroll systems required

Ability to work independently with staff at all levels across the organization

Attention to detail and high level of accuracy

Enjoys a fast paced, dynamic, challenging and team-oriented work environment

Demonstrated professional or personal interest in social and labor issues and/or environmental sustainability

Solid computer and business software skills in most major platforms: Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Office, Asana, Dropbox, Google Apps

Experience working with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.

Compensation and Location

SAC offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. SAC's members are global organizations, and as such, the SAC staff sometimes works early or late hours. This is a full-time position.  Location:  San Francisco or remote, preferably from within Northern California.
