The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) is seeking a highly respected event professional to advance the mission and vision of the Coalition by engaging members and industry stakeholders through the development and execution of successful events. It includes advancing member and industry use of the Higg Index tools through events that help educate and train users on tool value and usage. The SAC also seeks an individual who will be constantly seeking to improve events to support the goals of the Coalition and the needs of its members.

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) was founded by a group of sustainability leaders from the global apparel and footwear industry who recognize addressing our current social and environmental challenges are both a business imperative and an opportunity.

Through multi-stakeholder engagement, the SAC seeks to lead the industry toward a shared vision of sustainability built upon a common approach for measuring and evaluating apparel and footwear product sustainability performance that spotlights opportunities for technological innovation and priorities for action. The Higg Index, our common measurement tool, is currently in use by thousands of brands, retailers, and factories within our industry.

Position Description

 

The SAC Events Manager will report to the Senior Director, Asia (Membership and Business Development) and will oversee membership event planning, execution, and communications.

 

The primary purpose of the Manager, Events is to execute successful SAC events that accomplish the following key objectives:

  • Build Long-term relationships with members and ensure member satisfaction.
  • Educate members, Higg Index users, and the industry on the SAC and the Higg Index to help drive widescale adoption of the tools.
  • Keep challenging and improving our events.
  • Collaborate closely with your team mates.

 

The Manager, Events will work closely with a wide range of other individuals on the SAC staff. Managed by the Senior Director, Asia, the events manager will work closely with regional member managers to coordinate and execute successful events globally. The Manager, Events will also work with business development and communications staff to fully leverage events to increase member engagement, retention, and industry awareness.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Event Planning - Oversee all stages of the event planning process for up to 12 meetings per year including SAC's annual global member meeting, manufacturer forums, design day meetings, and other regional and organizational meetings.

  • Cultivate a positive member experience through events and build relationships to increase members retention and engagement.
  • Plan and execute all events from start to finish according to requirements, target audience, and objectives.
  • Develops project plans which summarize costs, event times, attendance numbers, equipment needs, catering, decorations/floral, and other related details.
  • Manage deadlines with each meeting process and make decisions based on the needs and objectives (manage multiple events at once).
  • Ability to utilize various technology systems and software to support meeting planning end to end process.
  • Communicate with staff and members to ensure a successful meeting.
  • Work with venues to manage guest accommodation lists, audio visual orders, room set-ups, and develop menus for events.
  • Assist in developing and proofing content for event website, event emails, and other event collateral; including signage, agendas, etc. with high quality.
  • Work with team to create and manage timelines for events, including those that involve outside vendors, creative and/or marketing services.
  • Work directly with various levels of management, outside vendors, venue management and members.
  • Support all membership, communications, and business development initiatives when needed.
  • Go above and beyond to ensure meetings or events meet members’ expectations.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, technology and share best practices.
  • Work collaboratively to streamline and monitor a standardized work-flow process for event planning and management.
  • Support efforts to develop and maintain relevant event databases and mailing lists.
  • Provide onsite support at all major and international events when needed and post-event evaluations.
  • Bring energy, creativity and new ideas to contribute to a successful experience at all events.
  • Demonstrate event planning and event management standard methodologies.

 

Qualifications

Ideal candidate is:

  • Experienced working in the apparel, footwear, industry or within a membership organization.
  • Diplomatic, energetic, and enthusiastic.
  • A team player.

 

A successful candidate has:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years relevant work experience
  • Experience in event planning/management (i.e. corporate events, conferences, trade shows) and vendor management/relations (i.e. selection process, negotiations, understanding of contracts, budgeting), preferably in a corporate/international environment
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively under pressure while remaining flexible, adaptable, and innovative; ability to problem solve quickly and remain focused and professional during unanticipated event setbacks
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, project management, and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks under tight timeframes/deadlines; results driven with the ability to carry out multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Punctual, dependable, attentive to details, and dedicated to achieving operational excellence through events that meet and/or exceed attendees’ expectations.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate clear, concise information to a variety of internal/external stakeholders, vendors, etc.
  • Excellent customer service skills are required and the ability to create lasting partnerships with colleagues, members, vendors, etc.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively as a team and sharing responsibilities of major events with other team members.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50% for onsite support and event planning trips both internationally and domestic.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite required
  • Enjoys a fast-pace, dynamic, challenging, and team-oriented work environment;
  • Demonstrated professional or personal interest in sustainability.
  • Eligible to work in Hong Kong.
  • Experience in marketing and social media communications preferred.
  • Multi-lingual is a definite plus.
  • Graphic/visual design experience a plus.

 

Compensation and Location

SAC offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience with full and excellent benefits for all of its full-time employees. SAC's members are global organizations, and as such, the SAC staff sometimes works early or late hours. This position is a full-time position based in Hong Kong.
