The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) is seeking a highly respected sustainability professional to serve as its Senior Manager of Higg Facility Tools, located in one of SAC’s global offices. The successful candidate will play an essential role in managing SAC’s Higg Index Facility Modules, which enable thousands of apparel, footwear, and textile manufacturing facilities worldwide to track their progress in improving environmental performance and protecting the well-being of their workers. The Higg Index Facility Modules are the respected global standard for measuring and improving both environmental and social/labor impacts for one of the world’s most important industries.

Position Description

The Senior Manager of Higg Facility Tools will be responsible for managing and improving the Higg Facility Environmental Module (Higg FEM), Higg Facility Social & Labor Module (Higg FSLM) and their suite of resources. The goal of this position is to continue to integrate input of Coalition members, facilities, and stakeholders into the tools and resources through effective engagement and facilitation and to scale the implementation of these tools globally. This role requires an expert in the field of supply chain engagement and factory-level sustainability management, who is experienced and confident with facilitation of diverse stakeholder perspectives. This role also will require familiarity and experience working with environmental and/or social/labor metrics and data analysis.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage Higg Facility Tools development: Lead planning and involvement of SAC members and stakeholders to shape content and methodology of the Higg Index Facility Environmental and Social/Labor assessments.
    • Support the technical development and scoring of both Higg Facility Modules.
    • Support technology development and testing of the Higg Facility Modules on the Higg.org platform
    • Be the lead expert and representative on Higg Facility Modules for SAC staff, members, and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee our pilot of a Facility Social Labor scoring approach in 2019, which includes working with existing staff to evaluate pilot results; leading member team to refine and launch final scoring, results, and benchmarking.
  • Engage with the Social Labor Convergence Project (slconvergence.org) to become SAC’s expert on their content, program, workplan and tools.
  • Continue the development of adoption resources that support the global scaling of the Higg Facility Modules, including “How to Higg” guidance, training and implementation guides, resources, and translations.
  • Lead the continued engagement and development of Higg Facility trainer and verifier programs.
  • Track and analyze Higg Facility Module adoption and performance data, including the development and review of data exports, internal and member data reporting, QA testing in cooperation with the technical teams, and responding to external data requests.


Ideal candidate has:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience within the apparel, footwear, or home textiles industries including facility engagement and sustainability programs
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong familiarity with SAC and the Higg suite of tools with a clear understanding of the difference in approach between Higg and standard audits
  • Experience working with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds

Compensation and Location

SAC offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. SAC's members are global organizations, and as such, the SAC staff sometimes works early or late hours. This is a full-time position.
