Research & Communications Analyst

Full-time position in the United States. 

 

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) is seeking a highly engaged research and communications analyst to advance the mission and vision of the Coalition by engaging members and industry stakeholders through narrative stories and multimedia content based on rich Higg Index data. The role includes researching social and environmental sustainability data and, through multimedia formats, telling the stories is offers. The SAC seeks an individual who conveys how Higg data contributes to the goals of the Coalition and the needs of its members, including global adoption of the Higg Index.

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) was founded by a group of sustainability leaders from the global apparel and footwear industry who recognize addressing our current social and environmental challenges are both a business imperative and an opportunity.

Through multi-stakeholder engagement, the SAC seeks to lead the industry toward a shared vision of sustainability built upon a common approach for measuring and evaluating apparel and footwear product sustainability performance that spotlights opportunities for technological innovation and priorities for action. The Higg Index, our common measurement tool, is currently in use by thousands of brands, retailers, and factories within our industry.

Position Description

The SAC Research & Communications Analyst will report to the SAC Communications Manager and will oversee Higg Index research, analysis, synthesis, and communications. The analyst will mine Higg Index data and identify benchmarks, trends, and relevant information, interpreting and translating Higg Index data into meaningful and moving stories that are narratively and visually driven.

The analyst will collaborate with the SAC Communications Manager to develop marketing, promotional content, white papers, deep insights, and graphic visualizations rooted in storytelling and driven by Higg Index data and trends.

 

The primary purpose of the SAC Research & Communications Analyst is to assess Higg Index data and convey the stories the data tells to accomplish the following key objectives:

  • Drive global Higg Index adoption.
  • Promote the improvement of social and environmental sustainability performance.
  • Position the SAC as the industry leader in social and environmental sustainability performance.
  • Build long-term relationships with members and ensure member satisfaction.
  • Educate members, Higg Index users, the industry, and consumers on the SAC and the Higg Index to help drive widescale adoption of the tools and drive performance improvement.

 

The SAC Research & Communications Analyst will work closely with a wide range of other individuals on the SAC staff including global member managers, Higg Co data support, and Higg Co customer success teams to gather and organize Higg Index data. The SAC Research & Communications Analyst will also work with business development staff, Higg Index training and verification staff, and Higg Co staff to fully leverage data to increase member engagement, Higg Index customer engagement, retention, and industry awareness.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze Higg Index data
  • Identify trends, inflection points, and stories through data performance
  • Monitor and forecast Higg Index trends
  • Monitor SAC member sustainability commitments
  • Conduct background research and analysis to support existing projects as well as proposals for new bodies of work; synthesizes research findings to identify and recommend best practices.
  • Extract, collect, and aggregate data across databases, information sources, survey responses, and other data sources; ensures data quality; cleans and checks exiting data for consistency and accuracy.
  • Develop Higg Index success stories based on data to be delivered via multimedia visual and narrative formats in long and short forms. (Eg. graphs, webpages, blogs, social media, video, podcasts, photos, articles, etc.).
  • Develop data visualizations for diverse audiences and develops, formats, and prepares reports, charts, and/or graphs for varying documents, including written and oral presentations for both internal and external audiences
  • Collaborate with SAC Communications Manager and other teams to design and help integrate data into an SAC-approved format.
  • Conduct data standardization processes; proactively identifies and proposes alternatives to improve the stability, performance, and accuracy of the data.
  • Assist in coordinating, administering, analyzing, and reporting on SAC surveys.
  • Assist with one-pagers and topic briefs to support SAC’s work.
  • Assist in efforts to improve internal information tracking systems and enhance SAC’s collaborations and communications on integrated activities.
  • Occasionally post social media about Higg Index and SAC trends and stories
  • Engage with SAC members to develop creative content based on Higg Index commitments, CSR commitments, and social and environmental sustainability performance.
  • Support and prepare senior staff for regular internal and external meetings and completion of deliverables; draft talking points and presentations for external audiences.

 

Qualifications

A successful candidate has:

  • Experienced working in the apparel, footwear, industry or within a membership organization.
  • Creativity.
  • College degree (BA/BS) (required), and minimum of two years’ experience working with quantitative data and analysis. Experience in apparel, footwear, and textile industry preferred.
  • Intermediate level experience preparing data sets and data analysis and ability to read and interpret complex materials and perform data cleaning. Strong understanding of databases, analytical tools, and concepts.
  • Strong experience with Excel including the ability to perform V-lookups and Pivot tables and use data visualization software, such as Tableau or Quip is required; experience with SPSS or other statistical software is preferred.
  • Experience working with Office 365, SharePoint, association management systems, mass email systems, and website content management systems is preferred.
  • Experience in storytelling across a variety of mediums.
  • Ability to identify, extrapolate, and tell moving stories based on data (long-form and short-form content).
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively under pressure while remaining flexible, adaptable, and innovative; ability to remain focused and professional during unanticipated setbacks.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, project management, and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks under tight timeframes/deadlines; ability to carry out multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate clear, concise information to a variety of internal/external stakeholders.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to create lasting partnerships with stakeholders, colleagues, vendors, etc.
  • Ability to travel internationally and nationally occasionally is required.

 

Compensation and Location

SAC offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience with full and excellent benefits for all of its full-time employees. SAC's members are global organizations, and as such, the SAC staff sometimes works early or late hours. This position is a full-time position based in the United States.
