The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) is seeking a highly respected sustainability professional to serve as its Senior Manager, Higg Brand and Retail tools, located in one of SAC’s global offices. The successful candidate will play an essential role in managing SAC’s Higg Index Brand and Retail tools, which enable hundreds of apparel, footwear, and textile brands and retailers worldwide to track their progress in improving environmental performance and protecting the well-being of their workers.

Position Description

The Senior Manager, Higg Brand and Retail Tools will be responsible for managing and updating the Higg Brand and Retail Module and its suite of resources. The goal of this position is to continue to integrate input of Coalition members, facilities, and stakeholders into the tools and resources through effective engagement and facilitation and to scale the implementation of these tools globally. This role requires an expert in project management who is experienced and confident with facilitation of diverse stakeholder perspectives. This role also will require familiarity and experience working with environmental and/or social/labor program implementation.  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project manage the Higg Brand and Retail environmental and social/labor tools and programs to successful launch and completion.
  • Build buy-in with SAC members and small/medium enterprise users by gathering feedback and developing solutions to meet their needs, while keeping the overall project on track.
  • Lead internal team of staff, engineers, and consultants to implement online tools and supporting materials for the programs.
  • Support the technical development and scoring of Higg Brand and Retail Module;
  • Support technology development and testing of the Higg Brand and Retail Module on the Higg.org platform.
  • Be the lead expert and representative on Higg Brand and Retail Module for SAC staff, members, and external stakeholders.
  • Cooperate with policy staff to engage government officials to align Higg Brand and Retail Module with prioritized external stakeholders and their respective tools.
  • Engage with verification staff to develop and pilot test the verification approach
  • Coach one direct report (analyst-level) in Higg Brand and Retail Module content and scoring implementation.
  • Use strong understanding of supply chain, product creation, and logistics to develop Higg Index content that demonstrably leads to impact improvement.
  • Track and analyze Higg Brand and Retail Module adoption and performance data, including the development and review of data exports, internal and member data reporting, QA testing in cooperation with the technical teams, and responding to external data requests.
  • Present complex messages in a simple way in both formal and informal settings including webinars, full-day workshops, and on-stage to 350+ individuals.


Ideal candidate has:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience within a Brand or Retailer in the apparel, footwear, or home textiles industries and in sustainability programs;
  • Strong project management, analytic and leadership skills;
  • Experience in developing and implementing environmental and social sustainability programs;
  • Experience with multi-layered, complex projects with multiple stakeholders and a solution-oriented approach;
  • Experience in consensus building;
  • Public speaking expertise;
  • Technology and or large-scale survey development and/or implementation experience;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Strong familiarity with SAC and the Higg suite of tools with a clear understanding of the difference in approach between Higg and standard audits;
  • Experience working with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds; and
  • Passion for sustainability.
  • BA required, MA preferred.

Compensation and Location

SAC offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. SAC's members are global organizations, and as such, the SAC staff sometimes works early or late hours. This position is a full-time position.
